I love being a virtual assistant because it gives me the flexibility to work the hours around my life and family. I am ultimately my own boss.
Having 2 young children at primary school means I don’t have to put them in breakfast and after school clubs as I am around to do the drop offs and pick-ups.
No more tackling the early morning commute and evening rush hours along with late or even cancelled trains. Being in the office 9-5!
I get to choose the services I want to offer as well as working with the types of businesses I want to work with. The current client I have has given me tasks such as updating his website with his blogs which is something I never did before, so I get to learn different skill sets too.
Some of the services I offer include diary management, in box management, travel arrangements, minute taking, taking payments, proof reading and even a sound board to bounce ideas off.
Being my own boss has given me the spare time I have needed to use towards furthering my learning development taking courses such as Canva Content Creation – Beginner to Advanced and Fundamentals of Digital Marketing.
I only get paid for the hours I work so it is up to me to make sure I am working enough hours to ensure I am meeting my earning needs.
There are very little startup costs some of which included business insurance, ensuring I was data compliant, legal documents, various virtual assistant memberships, web hosting and maintenance.
There are a few downfalls such as holiday pay, pension, sick pay etc. but all these can be sensibly factored into your hourly fee.
I would still recommend anyone who wants to change their career direction to give it a go – what have you got to lose?
